Easter Egg Topiary

YAY!! Easter is almost here, which means the end of Lent for me. Hello Starbucks!!! I hope you have missed me. Granted I can't drink anything caffeinated due due my craziness that's going on but I could always just have a hot chocolate or something right?

So here's my Easter Topiary. I know that it's a little late for Easter decorations and all but I just had to share this. It's simply too cute not to. I didn't get pictures of every step because this was actually a last minute decision post. So I apologize and I'll explain things as best as I can. Also, just a warning, this is a time consuming project, but totally worth it. So beware...

Supplies:

1 12 inch wooden dowel
brown paint for wooden dowel (or whatever color you wish to go with)
1 6 inch foam ball
1 Easter bucket (got mine from Michaels)
Sturdy foam that fits into said bucket
60ish plastic Easter eggs
Sprigs of fake spring flowers (something that's going to be easy to cut apart like maybe hydrangeas)
Easter ribbon
Easter Grass
Scissors
Glue gun with lots and lots of glue sticks

Instructions:

1. First, paint your dowel rod in whatever color you wanted. Then you'll want to hot glue your floral foam into the bucket. After your wooden dowel has dried you have several options. First, you can go ahead and stick your rod into to floral foam then add the foam ball to the other end. Or you can do what I did. Stick the foam ball on first then but it into the floral foam. Or you can put the foam ball on and not stick into the floral foam yet and work on it this way. I don't recommend this because it will be difficult later when you are gluing the eggs on.

2. Warm up your glue gun and pull out those glue sticks and Easter eggs and start gluing away. I'm going to be honest with you and say that once you get all you eggs glued on it's going to look awful and your gonna to want to give up. DON'T!!!

You're going to have gaping holes between your eggs, but that's fine. You're going to cover them up with your flowers. This is a very time consuming project. I warned you.

3. This is going to take forever just to let you know. You're going to want to cut your flowers off the stem to where there is only a little tiny baby stem left. Then hot glue them into the open spaces between your eggs. An hour or so and a couple of hot glue burns later you'll get this little beauty:

4. WORTH IT!!! Open up your Easter egg grass and stuff it into your bucket. Now, if you topiary is lopsided, like mine was, you can fix this with your Easter grass. Just keep stuffing your bucket on the appropriate side until it's not lopsided anymore. If you want you can add a few Easter eggs in your bucket just for looks. Or don't. Totally up to you. Adding some candy to your bucket would be cute too. Just a suggestion. To finish it off, just tie some ribbon into a bow right below the foam ball.

Time well spent if you ask me. The hardest part was the flowers, but depending on what flowers you use it could be easier. Once you get into a rhythm though, it's pretty easy going. Happy Easter!!!
