Paint Chip Bookmarks

So, next week is the big week! Valentine's Day is almost here which will bring us to the conclusion of all of our Valentine's Day crafts. (Just one more after this week!!) This week's tutorial is a short, sweet, and easy bookmark. It will probably take you all of 30 minutes to do about ten of these, which is perfect. This is something nice and inexpensive to give to co-workers, your book club members, or classmates of your little ones. Just grab a couple of paint swatches at your local hardware store, (or Wal-Mart. That's where I got mine.) a heart hole punch and a single hole punch, (which you probably already have laying around the house anyway) and ribbon. (Again, you probably already have.) You are ready to GO!!

Supplies

  • Paint chips (swatches or whatever you want to call them) in whatever color you want. Preferably in reds and pinks because this is Valentine's Day.
  • Heart Hole Punch
  • Single Hole Punch
  • Ribbon
Note: I have a cupid hole punch pictured. However, this is totally optional. I just wanted to add a little extra pizzazz to my bookmarks. You can do this too or just go with the simple heart.

1. First, you want to skip the first little square. We'll come back to this in a second so don't freak out. Grab your heart whole punch and align it as far as it can go into the paint swatch. You should have a little color peeking on each side of the hold punch. That's how you know you've got it pretty much centered. Now, heart punch away. All the way down to the last square. It should look like this all the way down:

Now, if you want to add a little extra, now is the time. I added the little cupid and he came out super cute. (To me anyway. Emily said if you didn't know what you were looking at he looked like a tentacled monster chasing after a heart. I wasn't offended....honestly.)

See. Cute Right? No? Fine...

 2. Anyway! Once you finish all your decorative hole punching, go back to the first square that looks plain and boring and has no hole punches whatsoever. Now, punch a hole in the top with the single hole punch. It should look like this:

3. Now, cut two equal lengths of ribbon.

4. Tie a knot at the top of your bookmark.

And there you have it. Paint chip bookmarks. Super easy right? So go! Go out into the world and create, my friends!!
