DYI Coasters

I love to do a craft and realize "Hey! That was so much simpler than I thought it was going to be!" and these coasters are definitely simple. These coasters are great for a couple of reasons. 1. They are super cheap to make. 2. You can be very diversified with it to match any decor in your house. 3. They would make excellent gifts.. Lets begin shall we?... Let me first apologize for the quality of my camera, it's on it's last leg and is taking pictures like a camera phone from 2002.

 

You will need: 

Square tiles from your local hardware store (4.25" X 4.25")

Scrapbook paper (1 sheet gives you 9 squares)

Mod Podge (I used Mod Podge Gloss)

Brush or sponge

Felt

Glue (I used Weldbond)

Clear Acrylic Sealer (not pictured)

1. Cut your scrapbook paper into squares. Depending upon what kind of edge you want to leave exposed I would recommend 3.75" x 3.75" or 4" x 4". 

2. Brush on a layer of Mod Podge onto the tile. Be generous now.... 

3. Center your paper on the tile. 

4. Turn your brush around and run it along the edges of the paper.This isn't a critical step but I just found that it helped give it a better bond and cleaner look. 

5. Mod Podge the top. I did two coats, you could do three but I wouldn't recommend only doing one. 

6. Once the second (or third) layer of Mod Podge dries take them into a well ventilated area, or outside and spray on the acrylic sealer. I did two layers of sealer sprayed on ten minutes apart. 

7. Once your sealer has dried completely cut your felt to totally cover the bottom. and glue it on. The felt is going to keep the tiles from scratching your surfaces so try to get it to cover as much as possible. Usually the tiles will have a raised pattern on the back and as long as it covers the pattern you won't scratch. 

Let the glue dry then flip it over and enjoy!
