Bookshelf Redo

Hope you all had a happy 4th of July! I took the extra day off to finish up a project that got put on hold for a couple of weeks.

Scarlett all of a sudden had books pouring out of her ears. Nana sent some, Mimi bought some, Aunt Melissa gave all of her childhood books, plus what she already had. All three gave her them within about a week and a half of each other, so it was madness. We haven't read the same book at bedtime in the past 3 weeks. Books were everywhere. So it was time for her to get a bookshelf but I didn't want to just buy one.

Lucky for Megan and I working at an apartment complex has it benefits and someone had just moved out and left a bookshelf the exact size I was wanting.

Sorry about the picture being funky I took it sideways while it was propped up on a table.

Little rough around the edges but it will do. I... ahemmm.. Leroy took the back off and I sanded it down to be painted (yes! I used power tools!)

It was super sunny that day so you can't see how well I sanded but I did, and even wood puttied where it needed it. So next of course was a nice coat of paint. First I went and got the fabric and then chose the color I wanted. Going in Scarlett's room I wanted it to be girly. I chose Coral expression by Behr paint and primer in one.

Next was attaching the fabric to the back. Now like I said the project was put on hold for a couple weeks, while so, the original back got water damaged, and a certain husband failed to mention that he threw it out, so Leroy had to cut me a new back to it.

Then I used spray adhesive to attach the fabric. I did about 6 inches at a time so that it was really easy to pull tight.

When that was all attached I cut off my excess and used spray adhesive to attach it at the back.

And then the back is done!

Attach the back to it and viola! Beautiful bookshelf!

Now when I get a chance I am going to stencil a quote from Henry David Thoreau that says "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams". It's just a quote I found when Scarlett was itty bitty that I loved.

Hope you all are inspired!
