Wednesday I thought about doing a pizza braid, never done one but it sounded good. I had to go to the store anyway for dish soap so I mean... that's the perfect excuse to pick up things that I need instead of doing the chicken that I already had thawed out right? "Honey I went to get dish soap and the pepperonis just jumped in my basket I swear!"
But I'm glad I did because Scarlett ate it up like she was a bottomless pit and my husband's exact remark was "This is so effing good" (and yes it was effing not the other word, toddler ears!)
Because it was last minute I didn't get the prettiest pictures, so bare with me.
You will need:
Refrigerated Pizza Dough
Low Moisture Mozzarella
Toppings of your choice (ours were pepperoni and ham)
Garlic and Onion Powder
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
First mix up your toppings. Whatever you fancy for toppings dice, chop and throw in a bowl. Add about half a bag of the mozzarella. and about 3 tablespoons of sauce. Keep in mind you don't want it to be too saucy. The more moisture in there the less the bottom of the crust will puff and crisp. Just use enough sauce to coat everything. You can always use sauce to dip.
Next roll out your dough into a rectangle on a baking sheet. You may want to spray the pan if it's not non stick. Make sure your dough is uniform in thickness so it will cook evenly. I just used my hands to get it into shape.
Pile your toppings onto the center, and then cut your strips.
Start folding your strips over. I was folding them over so the end of one strip ended at the beginning of the one catty corner to it, so that when I fold that one over, it holds the previous strip in place. You can do an egg wash if you want, but it's not completely necessary. Once it is all folded sprinkle the garlic and onion powders on top.
Place it in oven and cook until crust is golden brown, about 15 to 20 mins.
Mmmmm... I cut mine into strips about the size of bread sticks to serve which made it manageable, and served it with a caesar salad.
My family loved it I hope yours did too. Super easy, and it can be adjusted to anybody's tastes. Next time my husband wants ham and bacon and I want pepperoni olive and green pepper I think both will still be excellent.
Hope y'all enjoy!
